High blood pressure is a dangerous problem for people all around the world.
Making dietary and lifestyle changes can greatly improve your high blood pressure. A lower blood pressure is often one of the first health benefits that people report after changing their diet.
Table of Contents
Here are 5 foods that can lower your blood pressure and ways you can incorporate them into your diet:
Oatmeal
Oatmeal tastes pretty bland by itself. Here are some tasty additions that can help you get excited about eating oatmeal:
- Fruit
- Cinnamon
- Honey
- Brown Sugar
- Nuts, Seeds, and Raisins
Here’s a trick I learned recently: cook your oatmeal in chicken broth! It may sound weird, but you won’t need to add anything else. It reminds me of chicken flavored rice. This is how I always eat my oatmeal now.
Bananas
This potassium-filled fruit is very versatile. Besides being yummy enough to eat on its own, you can also put cut-up bananas in your oatmeal, knocking out two of these healthy foods at once! My favorite way to eat bananas is to put them in smoothies. Bananas and avocados both add the creamy consistency to smoothies; bananas also add the extra sweetness.
Fish
You can take fish oil in capsules if you are not a seafood lover. Seafood with just the right amounts of Omega 3’s are:
- Pole-caught tuna
- Wild-caught salmon
- Oysters
- Sardines
Green Tea
The antioxidants in green tea are hard to beat. This is an easy one to add to your diet, just have a cup in the morning and a cup in the evening and you will already be on your way to lowering your blood pressure.
Leafy Greens
It’s no surprise that leafy greens made this list. Leafy greens are probably one of the smartest additions you can make to your diet. Make a salad with them or throw them into a blender with fruit if you don’t like the earthy flavor. Here are some of the best ones:
- Spinach
- Arugula
- Kale
- Romaine
- Swiss Chard
- Turnip, Collard, and Beet Greens
Healthy foods like these will improve more than just your blood pressure! So start slow by incorporating these 5 foods into your diet today.
And here’s another one!
I have a bonus for you, another food I had to sneak in here! This one is usually thought of as a treat that you only eat once a week or once a month, but I have some good news!
You can eat a small amount of this one every day and it will help lower your blood pressure! What is this amazing food that seems to defy the laws of healthy eating?
Dark chocolate! There is a caveat though; it needs to be at least 85% cacao. You might be thinking dark chocolate is bitter and icky, but I’m here to tell you, after being a milk chocolate addict my whole life, that you can make the switch and get used to the taste and come to love it! I can’t even eat milk chocolate anymore, I much prefer this!
There are a lot of brands of dark chocolate out there, and I have done my research and found what I believe is the best one. This one contains a low amount of sugar compared to the other brands and is a low price for what you get. I love this chocolate and eat it every day! I’m going to share the love and drop a link for you below: (affiliate link, so thank you if you purchase through me!) (Note: the 85% cacao often sells out, so pick yours up quickly and check back often if they are out of stock!)
